I was recently gifted an ender 6 by Andrew (Apprisco) after he swapped to a Voron and mentioned he didn't have space in the MITERS discord.
He mentioned that a good way to figure out what was going on the printer would be to kind of restart it and make it my own, which I think it an awesome idea. I've never had my own 3D printer and I'm looking forward to the headaches of nozzle cleaning and such that I've heard so much about.
I currently have the following components/modifications:
- Stock Ender6 Screen
- BigTreeTech (BTT) Voron SKR Mini v3
- Raspberry Pi (On a train and can't check the version)
- Stock nozzle feed
My goals are to set up Klipper and in the short-term while i figure out some other life things, hook up the raspberry pi to my tailscale account where I have other devices to enable easy 3D printing from other devices. I'll ignore the screen for now as I've read that Klipper can be a pain to set up on stock screens and mostly focus on interacting with the Pi using Mainsail and SSHing from one of my laptops.
I flashed the Raspberry Pi 3 B with Raspberry Pi OS Lite and plugged it into the BTT. I flashed it with tailscale and now have my SSH set up to work easily and can work from Mainsail.
I have been having issues with some configuration though. It seems like the previous owner had some of the motors plugged in randomly. I went to start homing to X and Y and there was a decent amount of banging against one of the rails before I was able to stop the movement. I guess a reason to be more careful about having my finger on the emergency stop on my laptop. I am a little worried that this will mean a lot more work for me, but hopefully it's doable this weekend.
I'm going to check on the timing belts and make sure they're properly tensioned. I once again think my klipper.config file generally needs to be sorted out a bit better. Those are my first steps. I also think that my Z-axis has a limit switch that is not properly set up.
So hopefully this weekend (January 31ish), I will have the printer set up and working. We'll see how my time goes for that...
