Over winter break, I decided that I wanted to explore new hobbies (and procrastinate on doing things that I probably should), so I downloaded blender and looked at some videos by Joey C on youtube. I followed his tutorial initially and then deviated once I realized that I had somehow messed up and could not cmd + z all the way back. However, below are some of the models I have made and hopefully will at some point print (now that I have a 3D printer)for friends / my siblings.
Right now, I'm definitely looking at blocky characters. I think my natural intutition / general artistic instict is limited, so I'm going to start intentionally with simpler models. My goal, however, is to make pokemon for my siblings for next christmas that hopefully are of better quality.
I tested running one of my models through a slier and saw that the print was really messed up, so I had to restart the process. Currently, the process I believe works best is:
1) Define cubes and icospheres with subdivision surfaces
2) Shape the surfaces as necessary. Try not to apply modifiers onto objects unless necessary
3) Use a "union" boolean (potentially right after a division) in order to make sure geometry is well-meshed
4) Join all bodies together (cmd J)
5) Select all faces and convert them to triangalize them
